Via Darjeeling - Movie review

It’s a noble effort to walk in a different path of filmmaking but for that make sure that you do justice to the story. Via Darjeeling exactly falls apart this part. A good story but no finishing. You will be perplexed when you coming out of the theatre. What happens ultimately? Via Darjeeling leaves no answers for you.

Via Darjeeling starts with an interesting storyline; Ankur [Played by K.K] and Rimli [Played by Sonali Kulkarni] are newly married couple, who came Darjeeling for their honeymoon, but suddenly one day before their departure, Ankur suddenly disappear. Officer in charge Robin Dutt [Played by Vinay Pathak] searched for Ankur still down the hill but got no trace. The only hints that Rimli able to gave him that Ankur had a fight with a cab driver last day and a mysterious man Bonny [Played by Pravin Dabas] followed them through the whole trip. But Robin Dutt unable to got any trace of Ankur.

This part of the story ends here. Now some years later on a rainy evening Robin told this story to some of his friends [Played by Rajat Kapoor, Simone Singh, Proshanth Narayanan, Sandhya Mridul]; and then everyone started to find out what may be the probable reason for this incidents. That’s it.

Now so interesting storyline but what next? Director Arindam Nandy didn’t solve the main mystery. Everyone gave their own opinion. That’s all and more Rajat Kapoor’s story of the incident seems interesting but Simone Singh and Proshanth Narayanan’s story are too much monotonous.

It may appeal to the viewer if the main story got an outcome at the end but where is it? The same story but different versions. The writers [Arindam Nandy and Ranjan Das] should have worked here.

Cinematography is alright, but should be more alluring, as the movie has been shot on the stunning locale of Darjeeling. The scenario should be more attractive. Dialogues are written well and well narrated with the story.

According to performance KK is as perfect as always but Sonali Kulkarni is the show stealer. Vinay Pathak has done a decent job as Robin Dutt. Pravin Dabas, Rajat Kapoor, Simone Singh and others are ok with their characters.

Director Arindam Nandy is good as director and have done decent job in some sequences and also extract some well performances from the actors. But the script, which should be more attractive on this kind of movie, should be more carefully written.

On the whole Via Darjeeling could have been an interesting movie but lack of written flaws, all experiments failed to get their appreciation.
