Just a few notes before starting the review; if you thought of spending some of your time to watch a movie which has a flavor of Pyaar Ke Side Effect, Ugly Aur Pagli is not for you, though both came from same production house and the promos, uncanny title may point you towards that. But take a break here. Ugly aur Pagli has nothing to do with PKSE.
If you already saw MY SASSY GIRL, you can get a flavor of that in Ugly aur Pagli, as the director seems to be inspired from that movie. But Ugly aur Pagli is a very poor fare. In spite of interesting promos, tagline [99 slaps and 1 kiss] and most importantly Mallika, the movie wont worked.

But before that let’s starts with the story.
Ugly aur Pagli is the story of Kabir [played by Ranvir Shorey], a happy-go-lucky guy, an engineering student for last five years and always wanted to have a girlfriend. Then he meets Kuhu [played by Mallika Sherawat], a idiosyncratic, lively girl.
After meeting Kuhu, Kabir’s life changed. He never thought of a girlfriend who compelled him to do idiotic things.
Ugly aur Pagli has a nice first half; in fact some of the sequences bring the whole theatre down. Like the introductions of the character; Mallika wearing under garments over the cloths and came to college; are hilarious.
But what happens after that. Second half repeats the same sequences in different fashions. Nothing new in it. In fact some questions even left unanswered. You will perplex on those while leaving the theatre.
The only thing which is likable in the movie is the performance of Mallika and Ranvir. The character Kuhu may not portrait on screen if Mallika didn’t act on this. She is complete natural and I must say another powerful performance after Pyaar Ke Side Effect. The actor has much to deliver. I don’t need to say anything about Ranvir Shorey. The actor is brilliant. You never thought that he is acting. The submissive character besides Mallika is performed by him wonderfully. Others are competent with their charcter.
Another drawback of the movie is its music. Annu Malik isn’t in form yet again. The song which stands is “Talli” [Mika, Hard Kaur, Anmol Malik].
The biggest drawback of the movie is its script. Poorly written. The director should have work on this more. Debutante Director Sachin Khot has fallen for the wrong script. A poor show overall.
On the whole Ugly aur Pagli is a poor show. On the box office the interesting promos may bring audiences to the theatre on the weekend but it will surely go down.
