Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na - Movie review

Directed By - Abbas Tyrewala

Starring - Imran Khan, Genelia, Manjari Phandis, Ayaz Khan

Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan created a cold breeze of fresh air in Bollywood in 1980’s in their debut venture Qayamat Se Qaymat Tak. The story was nothing new but the presentation made the all differences. The same thing you can say about Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na [JTYJN].

JTYJN is a fresh movie with the same old story, but the presentation made it a likeable venture. The movie has a strong first half with lots of humors and mastis, but in the second hour in dragged in some places.

We will come to those points but let’s starts with the story.

JTYJN is the story of a group of college friends and Jai [Imran Khan] and Aditi [Genelia] is the heart of the group. They quarrel with each other, fight with each other and every time searching for each other. All of their friends know that they are perfect for each other, even their parents but they didn’t. Now how they come to know that is all about the story.

JTYJN starts with a great pace, college life masti, canteen staffs, gossips and all others which will surely bring you back to your adolescence. The chemistry between Jai and Aditi is marvelous and must say banged on target. But the movie lost its pace in the second half; some portions seemed dragged a bit with some unnecessary songs; like the Ayaz-Ginnelia relationship, though well executed but slow the pace of the movie; even the climax isn’t very interesting and looked very much Bollywood treatment in a daily life movie, though well executed.

But allover JTYJN worked because its fun, its masti a complete out ‘n out entertainer.

A.R.Rahmans music is fantastic and very much youthful like college buddies. “Pappu Cant Dance”, “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” is already in top of chartbuster. Rajeev Soorti’s cinematography is extremely superb.

Now come to the performances.

Imran Khan as Jay is perfect. The actor has cute look, screen appearance, and quite a good actor for his debut movie. Ginnelia is excellent. Previously she was appreciated for her talkative performance in Mere Baap Pehle Aap, but this time she is spontaneous, full of life and likes to be violent. Gennelia did it wonderfully.

Manjari Phandis as the third angle of Jay-Aditi love story is fantastic. She is complete natural. Rotlu [played by Karan Makhija], Bombs [played by Alishka], Jiggy [plyed by Nirav] and Shaleen [played by Sughanda Garg] as Jay-Aditi’s friends did a great job.

Jayant Kripalani and Anuradha Patel as Ginnelia’s parent looks very nice couple onscreen. But the couple parent who steals the show is Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak as Jay’s parents. The duo is in terrific form. Paresh Rawal in his small role, Rajat Kapoor and Kitu Gidwani [as Manjari’s parents], Ayaz as Ginnelia’s fiancé are likeable and did justice to their characters.

Abbas Tyrewala is the story/writer and the director of the movie and its his debut venture as director and I must say he did a great job, keeping in mind that the movie is made for youth. Great job done.

On the whole Jaane Tu Ya Jaane is very much youthful movie which has the potential to bring you back to your adolescence. The wonderful promotion of the movie will sure bring crowd to the theatre.

Critics Rating: **** [Out of Five]
